More About APSEA

After the break-up of East African Community in 1977, APSEA remained largely a Kenyan institution. However, since 2002, the Council of APSEA has made substantial progress towards ramifying APSEA to a truly East African institution. APSEA has in the last five years organised and hosted four consultative regional workshops in a bid to promote integration of trade in services in the East Africa and revive the country offices. The workshops were geared towards creating awareness of the inherent potential of trade in professional and other services in the social and economic development of the region. APSEA has subsequently since 2007 participated in the negotiation process of the East Africa Common Market Protocol.

While the East African footprint has been less active in other EAC countries since the break of the first East African Community in 1977, In the recent past, APSEA has developed strong partnerships with governmental and non governmental institutions that promote the cause of professionalism. APSEA continues to provide the much needed link between the government and professionals especially in cross cutting issues through the Public-Private Sector Partnership Programme.

APSEA has continued to hold on to the original regional ambitions of regional integration through professional services trade by working closely with the relevant government agencies of the EAC member states and the EAC Secretariat since the birth of the new EAC in 1999.

In the recent past, APSEA has actively participated in several initiatives of the EAC, including the Talent Mobility Programmed (TMP), The Secretary General Forum, World Trade Forum, East African Common Market Protocol with a view to enhance trade in professional services within the East Africa region and beyond for the benefit of its members.

APSEA is headquartered at its landmark building, The Professional Centre, situated on Parliament Road in the Central Business District of Nairobi, Kenya. APSEA is governed by the overall direction of an APSEA Council comprising of the chairpersons of all its corporate members, APSEA is managed by an Executive Committee of 7 elected officials and 6 additional members who are conveners of various Committees of APSEA responsible for development and implementation of various APSEA programmes with the support of a Secretariat led by an Executive Officer.
