a. Engagement with the Nairobi County Executives
In an effort to promote Professionalism, accountability and good governance, in May and June of this year, APSEA was involved in the development of the Nairobi County Budget albeit in the last stages of development. APSEA made recommendations that will improve proper utilization of funds, we flagged out gaps and made recommendations according to international accounting Standards. We hope to sustain this engagement and lobby for involvement of professionals at the early stages of the budget making process in order to provide the necessary expertise.
b. Our Engagement In The Fight Against Corruption
APSEA participated in the Governance and Accountability Summit held in State House on 17th October 2016 where the Head of State spearheaded discussions at the highest level relating to corruption, governance and accountability.
APSEA has also been in the front line of the fight against corruption through our participation in the Kenya Leadership and Integrity Forum (KLIF). The forum provides an inclusive anti-corruption framework for State and non-State actors to partner in the corruption prevention. It also provides a mechanism for continuous collaboration in the design and implementation of sectoral and National anti-corruption initiatives. This year, in February, through the Forum, APSEA was involved in the development of work plans and implementation reports.
APSEA’s mission is to promote best practices, ethics and integrity among professional societies. In an effort to push its agenda, APSEA has over the years embarked on numerous activities including being a major stakeholder in the Kenya Integrity Forum (KIF) formerly known as Kenya Leadership and Integrity Forum (KLIF) which is a multi-stakeholder approach geared towards fighting corruption and for the past 9 years APSEA and its Professional Bodies have been implementing the National Anti-Corruption Plan (NACP) now known as Kenya Integrity Plan (KIP) which is an initiative of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC). APSEA has also been pushing for the advancement of the highest standards of professionalism through assisting its Corporate Members with the development and review of legislations that regulate their professions, development of Codes of Conduct-which has been in partnership with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
