The Insurance Institute of Kenya (IIK)

The Insurance Institute of Kenya (IIK) is the umbrella body for insurance professionals in Kenya. It was formed in 1948 as an affiliate of the Chartered Insurance Institute of London, and was registered as a society by the Registrar of societies in 2002. The Insurance Institute of Kenya primarily exists to promote professional standards of insurance personnel in Kenya by conferring professional membership to such personnel and also ensuring that the members uphold the set standards of professionalism, ethics and professional conduct.

The Insurance Institute of Kenya has taken cognizance of the dynamism of the operating environment, such as the adoption of the East African Common protocol and financial sector consolidation, and noted the challenges as well as opportunities which can hamper or hasten the attainment of the set goals.

The Insurance Institute of Kenya is governed by an Executive Council which is the principal decision-making body.  In order to ensure that the Executive Council is effective in its role, five committees of the Executive Council are constituted to deal with the critical issues affecting the operations of the Institute.
